“Physical Fitness is the first requisite of happiness.” – Joseph Pilates

Here is a guide to our contemporary Pilates Matwork classes, which are designed to boost your fitness and improve your:

  • Strength
  • Flexibility and
  • Mobility

In addition, our online Pilates Matwork classes can be practised at home, or when you are holidays, so that you do not necessarily have to travel to the studio.  As they are low impact on joints, yet include strength work and standing exercises, these sessions can be helpful for maintaining bone health and improving balance.

Here is some more detailed information about our Mandurah Pilates matwork classes.  As with our Studio Pilates sessions, we always recommend checking first with your General Practitioner before commencing this or any other new exercise, to ensure our Matwork classes may be suitable for you.

Matwork Pilates Class Format

Your Mandurah Pilates online classes focus on the following key principles:

  • Centering
  • Control of movement
  • Core stability
  • Flowing Movement
  • Breathing
  • Precision
  • Concentration

Level 1 Matwork Pilates Class:  Starting Soon

Level 1 Matwork classes may include Standing Pilates exercises as well as floor based Pilates exercises.

Props may include the yellow theraband and a Pilates ball (available from our Pilates store).

Our instructors include cues to help you move though an exercise with correct technique and form.  We create a space for all levels of experience, including beginners, to feel comfortable and welcome to practice Pilates repertoire at their own pace.  This class is the place to start if you have never done a Matwork Pilates class, and you would like to learn the fundamental exercises and principles of Pilates.

Our new Level 1 Matwork Pilates series recommence this September, and you can join at any time.  Classes are held on Mondays at 5pm and run for 50 minutes.  If you have any questions, please call or email our team, or prebook your space here.

Level 2 Matwork Pilates Class:  Starting Soon

Our Level 2 Pilates Matwork classes may be suitable for our Pilates students who have experience in attending our matwork or Studio Pilates sessions and are ready to progress their practice with a more intermediate workout.  These classes continue the same sequence of exercises, with additional challenges and increased intensity.

In this series, you will learn tips and techniques to help you improve your strength, flexibility and core stability.

For the Level 2 Pilates Matwork class, our participants may explore variations of an exercise, utilising the following props:

  • Foam Roller
  • Fitball
  • Pilates Ball
  • Therabands
  • Pair of 1kg weights
  • Pilates Ring

As with all of our Pilates sessions, our instructors encourage you to work at your own pace and we provide modifications where possible.

Although our next round of classes commences in September, you may commence at any time.  We recommend, if you haven’t participated in a Pilates class before, that you commence with the Level 1 class first before progressing to Level 2.  To book, please visit our online booking page or contact our front desk team today.

Level 3 Matwork Pilates Class: Fully Booked

These Matwork Pilates classes are suitable for our Late Intermediate Pilates students and include dynamic Pilates choreography and repertoire to challenge your fitness, strength and endurance.

Props include the same list as the Matwork Level 2 class.

As these classes are currently fully booked, please subscribe to our newsletter to be notified when registrations reopen.

Where to Attend our Matwork Classes

To make our classes more accessible to our community, we now hold all of our matwork Pilates classes online, live streamed directly from Studio 2 at Mandurah Health Chiropractic Clinic.  You will need a clear space for your workout, and a mat.

Once you have registered for a class, you will receive instructions and your link to your class.  You will also receive a list of the class dates and your required prop/s for each session.  If you have any difficulty accessing your class, please contact our front desk team.

Do you need help in setting up your computer for online classes?  We understand that sometimes setting up your computer and phone for online classes can be challenging.  Please let us know if you would like us to set up a test session (available for participants who live in our local area).

How Often Should I Practice Pilates?

We recommend that you consider your time, personal goals and level of commitment as well as your ability to attend sessions.  It is best to start a new exercise program slowly and be consistent, so that you can build up your strength and stamina.  This will help you to achieve the best results for your body and fitness goals.

We recommend our Studio Pilates sessions for Prenatal and Postnatal students, which include specific programs and use the studio apparatus.

Pilates and Everyday Movement

Improved body awareness may be an important additional benefit of a regular Pilates practice – in other words, as movement becomes more efficient and balanced, you may find that you are able to integrate Pilates principles into your everyday movement.

This may enhance your sense of coordination and ability to feel more confident as you move at home, at work and in everyday activities such as shopping, sports or leisure activities.

Do you have questions about our Mandurah Pilates matwork classes?  Our team is available to have a chat with you before you attend a Pilates session at our studio, so that we can help answer any questions you may have and help you choose the best class type for you.
