Mandurah Pilates Studio Sessions

“The Pilates Method of Body Conditioning develops the body uniformly, corrects posture, restores vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit.” – Joseph H. Pilates

Here’s a quick guide to the Pilates sessions we currently provide at Mandurah Health studios.  This will help you to understand the different options available and decide which class might be the most helpful for your goals.

Important Note:  Before commencing a Pilates class at our studios, or any new exercise program, we recommend that you first consult with your Medical Practitioner.  This will help to ensure that Pilates is suitable for you.

Benefits of Pilates

Firstly, why is Pilates often recognised as a beneficial form of exercise?

A regular Pilates practice may help to improve:

  • Balance
  • Alignment
  • Core strength
  • Joint stability
  • Flexibility
  • Mobility

In addition to physical benefits, Pilates may also help to support mindful movement.  Pilates classes focus on learning new skills and improving:

  • Concentration
  • Coordination
  • Breathing

Initial Consultation Appointment

Firstly, new Pilates students who would like to attend our Clinical Pilates studio are required to attend an Initial Consultation.

This is so that we can assess your medical and health history, as well as discuss your personal fitness goals.  For example, we may provide a a student who has Osteoporosis with a program that includes exercises to focus on strengthening specific muscles and improving balance.

A Clinical Pilates program may also include consultation with your Medical Practitioner and Allied Health Professionals or referrals.

What You Will Learn In The Studio

You will learn fundamental Pilates exercises and principles, with progressive challenges that are appropriate to your ability.  Participants in Studio Pilates sessions may attend private sessions, or with one or two other participants.  However, all students are able to work on their own individual program goals.

Studio Pilates students may also access additional “homework” with short and simple exercise programs to support their strength, flexibility and mobility.  This may include therapeutic stretches, self myofascial release, and props such as the Makarlu or foam roller.

As a Clinical Pilates student, you will also learn to explore Studio apparatus, including the Reformer, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel, Pilates Spine Corrector and Cadillac.  In addition, we also include Fuse Ladder exercises in our programming.

We regularly check your progress and help you to set new goals in the studio, so that you can continue to improve your fitness, strength and mobility.

What You Need To Bring

In addition to filling out your Health Registration form before your appointment, please bring Pilates grip socks (available from our studio store).  The reason we request grip socks is to provide additional safety during balance exercises, and for safety.

We recommend you also bring a water bottle.  You may want to bring your own mat and hand towel.  Our instructors clean equipment between each session.
